Waves—-What you’ll need: an old-school waving iron (or a crimping iron that also comes with waver plates), heat protector cream (so important—it’ll keep the iron from creating the crunchy-wavy look from the ’80s), and a shine mist (because heat-styled waves can sometimes look dull). How you pull them off: Well, first you’re going to put on your heat protector, then very lightly press your hair in the waving iron for just a couple of seconds. You want the suggestion of a wave, not full-on bends—that’s what keeps this looking more modern. Then when you’re all done, just add your shine spray and be on your way.
